Useful plants

Our garden of useful plants displays both well-known plants and new and interesting profit varieties. Of the major cereal crops grown in Estonia we have barley (Hordeum vulgare), common wheat (Triticum aestivum) and oat (Avena sativa). There is also maize (Zea mays) and common buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum). Of the fibre plants we have common flax (Linum usitatissimum) and of the oil plants we have sunflower (Helianthusannuus). A large part of the collection consists of kitchen and medical herbs: here you can see such plants as oregano (Origanum vulgare), basil (Ocimum basilicum), tarragon (Artemisia dracunculus), coriander (Coriandrum sativum), borage (Borago officinalis) and many other plants which provide us with beauty, health and spices. The garden also displays a lot of interesting vegetables, such as globe artichoke (Cynara scolymus), tomatillo (Physalis ixocarpa) and pattypan (Cucurbita pepo var. melopepo f. clypeiformis). As many plants in the collection are annual, the composition of the display may be different each year.
